From post-war brick homes near the park itself to renovated weatherboards off Riversdale Road, we fix leaks, broken tiles and tired pointing across Wattle Park, and say so up front when a whole-roof restoration would be money better spent.
No Fees. No Obligation. Open 7 Days a Week.
If you live in Wattle Park, chances are your house has been standing for a good sixty or seventy years. Much of the suburb was built up after the Second World War, and plenty of those homes still have their original terracotta or concrete tiles. They were built well, but no roof lasts forever without some care.
When a Wattle Park homeowner rings us, it is usually because something has changed. Water is coming through after a downpour, a few tiles have slipped, or the roof just looks faded and grubby next to the neighbours’ freshly painted one. Our first step is always a proper look from on top of the roof itself. After that you hear, without any spin, if a fix will see you right or if the roof is ready for a full restoration instead.

Wattle Park is one of the greener corners of Whitehorse. The big park on Riversdale Road, with its old trams and tall eucalypts, sets the tone, and many streets are lined with mature trees. That greenery is a big part of the appeal, but it is hard on roofs. Valleys fill up with leaf matter, and roof faces sitting in the shade of big gums stay wet long enough for moss to settle in.
Age is the other factor. Ridge caps on post-war roofs were bedded in sand and cement, which slowly dries out and cracks. Once the pointing opens up, wind can rattle the caps loose and rain gets straight underneath. Concrete tiles from that era have usually lost their surface glaze, so they soak up water. Galvanised valleys, meanwhile, rust from the inside of the fold where wet leaves sit against them.
Put all that together and you get the classic Wattle Park leak: a small drip in winter that gets worse each year until the ceiling plaster starts to sag.
Good repairs start with finding the true source. We would rather spend twenty extra minutes tracing a leak than guess and have you call us back. Here is what we commonly fix:
Expect us to cover every square metre of the roof, including the parts you have never thought to worry about. That means checking every face of tiles, the ridges and hips, valleys, flashings around chimneys and walls, and the gutters. Each problem is photographed. Back on the ground we go through the photos together in everyday language, then email a written quote. It costs you nothing, and saying no thanks is perfectly fine.
A handful of cracked tiles and one leaky valley are repair jobs. A roof where the pointing has failed along nearly every ridge, the tiles are thick with moss and water is getting in at several points is a different story. Fixing those one at a time ends up costing more than tackling the whole roof at once.
That is where restoration comes in. The whole roof gets a high-pressure wash, cracked tiles come out, every hip and ridge is rebuilt on new bedding, and tired valley irons and flashings get mended or renewed. Finally the tiles are sealed, primed and given a protective coating in whatever colour suits the house. Compared with stripping and re-roofing, the cost is modest, and the result is a weather-tight roof that looks close to new and still suits a post-war Wattle Park home.
The step-by-step version lives on our page about roof restoration services.
Ultra Finish is small on purpose. Our owner has a quarter of a century of roofing behind him and still works the tools, which means the person giving you advice on inspection day is the same person standing on your roof when the work is done.
Licence, insurance and quality-assured workmanship are all in place. Established Wattle Park blocks often have mature plantings and old brick paths, so we sheet them over before the pressure washer starts and tidy up properly before we go. Every quote is in writing and only lists work the roof needs.
