Altona Meadows roofs built in the 1980s are now well into middle age, and bay air has not been kind to them. Our nearby team repairs cement tiles, rebeds and repoints ridges and repaints worn roofs properly, with free quotes and over 25 years in the trade.

When Altona Meadows was developed through the late 1970s and 1980s, most homes went up with concrete tile roofs. Forty-odd years later those tiles have weathered a lot: salty breezes off Port Phillip Bay, damp air drifting in from Cheetham Wetlands, strong westerlies and plenty of hot summer sun. Many roofs are now showing it.
Doing a job properly means finding out why a problem happened, not just covering it up. We are based nearby in Cairnlea and work on homes throughout Altona Meadows. We climb up, document the condition in photos and tell you plainly whether a few repairs will see you right or whether the entire roof has reached restoration age. Then you get a written quote covering only what is needed.

Living a short distance from the bay has its perks, but salt is not one of them for a roof. Salty air settles on tiles and metalwork, and over the years it speeds up corrosion in galvanised valleys, flashings and fixings. Combine that with moisture from the wetlands and you get rust that eventually eats through.
The suburb is flat and open, so wind from the bay and from the plains to the west gets a clear run at roofs. Ridge caps and the leading edges of tiles feel it most, and once the original pointing gives way, caps loosen and rain gets underneath.
Then there is the sun. Decades of UV have worn away the surface of many concrete tiles, leaving them porous. They soak up water, host lichen and crack far more easily than they did when new. Tackling these problems early keeps repair costs down.
Patching over a symptom just brings us back next year, so we fix the underlying cause, with materials picked to cope with salty air. Our usual Altona Meadows repairs:
Most single-storey homes here look simple from the street, but the real story is up top. On the roof we cover every face, test the ridge caps, the valleys, flashings and gutters, looking hard for salt corrosion on metalwork and any sign of wind movement along the ridges. Each fault earns a photo. Sitting down together afterwards, we flick through the images and point out what is pressing and what is not. An itemised written price follows by email. The whole thing is free, with no deadline on your decision.
Plenty of local homes are now at the age where restoring the roof is the sensible move. Pointing cracking on most ridges, tiles faded to a dusty grey and fresh leaks every winter are all signs that repairing one spot after another will only keep you on the merry-go-round.
So we reset the whole roof instead. High-pressure washing removes the salt film, grime and lichen. Cracked tiles come out, loose caps are bedded down again, every ridge gets new flexible pointing, and corroded valleys and flashings are swapped for fresh metal. To finish, the tiles take a sealer and primer, then two colour coats in a shade that suits the house. The result is a roof ready for many more years of bay weather, for a small share of the price of new roofing.
