Out on the open grasslands along the Hume corridor, new estate roofs cop wind and heat from day one. We fix early leaks, loose ridges and tile defects on Kalkallo homes, from the old township to the newest streets, with a licensed team and more than 25 years of know-how.

Kalkallo has gone from a tiny township beside the Hume Highway to one of the busiest growth areas in Melbourne’s north. Estates like Merrifield and Cloverton have brought thousands of new homes, nearly all with roofs that are only a few years old. It is easy to assume a new roof will look after itself. In practice, the open northern plains test new work quickly.
We regularly get calls from Kalkallo owners who have spotted a damp patch in a bedroom ceiling, a tile sitting crooked after a windy night, or pointing that has cracked along a ridge. Our owner drives up from Cairnlea, gets on the roof and finds out what went wrong. Most of the time it is a modest fix. Where an older township roof is worn right through, we will explain the restoration option too.

Very little stands between Kalkallo and the wind. The grasslands around Bald Hill and along the Hume corridor are flat and largely treeless, so gusts reach roofs at full strength. Hot northerlies in summer and cold fronts in winter mean roofs here go through a lot of heating, cooling and buffeting.
That matters for new homes in particular. As a house settles on its slab, rigid pointing can crack. Tiles that were not quite clipped or seated get rattled loose. Sealants around flashings and roof penetrations dry and shrink in the heat. None of it is dramatic on day one, but given a few seasons it adds up to leaks.
In the older township, the problems are the classic ones: dried-out ridge bedding, rusting valleys and faded tiles that have started to soak up water.
Photos before and after come as standard, which can also help if you need to raise an issue with your builder.
We walk the roof and inspect the tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings and gutters, plus anything mounted on top such as solar panels, vents and antennas. On estate homes, we look hard at how tiles are fixed along exposed edges, because that is where northerly gusts do their damage. The ceiling space gets a look too, where there is a manhole.
You then receive a clear explanation, the photos and a written quote. It sets out what needs fixing and what can be left alone, and there is no pressure to go further.
For most new Kalkallo homes, a restoration is a long way off. But older township roofs and some of the early estate homes are starting to show their age, with faded tiles, widespread lichen and pointing that has failed in many places.
In that case a restoration handles it all in one visit. The roof is washed, broken tiles swapped, ridges relaid and pointed, valleys and flashings put right, and the tiles finished with sealer, primer and colour coats that stand up to the heat. For a small share of re-roofing costs, you get a sound, fresh-looking roof that is ready for the plains weather.
