Drips in the laundry, a ridge cap sitting crooked, tiles gone chalky and grey? Our licensed team has spent 25-plus years on Melbourne roofs and will sort out what is broken in Regent, then tell you honestly if the rest needs restoring.

Regent is a small pocket of Melbourne’s north, centred on Regent station on the Mernda line and surrounded by Reservoir’s long streets of post-war houses. A lot of homes here were built between the late 1940s and the 1960s, and many still sit under their first set of tiles. That is a long time for a roof to go without serious attention.
When one of those roofs starts to leak, people often assume the worst. In our experience the fix is frequently smaller than they fear: a cracked tile, a rusted valley, a ridge that has lost its mortar. We find out which by getting up there, poking around properly and photographing what we see. You then hear our view in plain terms, along with a written quote. If the roof is genuinely past repairing piece by piece, we will show you the evidence rather than just telling you.

Most of Regent’s housing stock is solid and well built, but the materials on top were never meant to last forever without maintenance. Traditional sand and cement bedding under ridge caps shrinks and cracks with decades of heat. Once it cracks, rain finds its way in and wind gets a grip on the caps. Old galvanised valley trays also corrode from the inside, often unseen until water starts appearing indoors.
The northern suburbs get their share of hot, dry northerlies in summer and sharp cold changes that follow them. That swing in temperature makes the roof expand and contract, which is hard on brittle terracotta and on any coating left on concrete tiles. Big backyard trees and street plantings around Regent drop leaves into gutters and valleys too. The combination is slow, steady wear, and the first sign is usually a leak in a room you did not expect.
Here is the repair work we carry out most often in and around Regent. In every case we look for the cause before we pick up a tool.
Guessing from the footpath helps no one. Booking an inspection means one of us climbs up and goes over the tiles, the cappings, the valleys, the flashings and the gutters, and has a look in the roof space if you are seeing leaks. Problem spots are photographed so you can see them for yourself. Afterwards you get a jargon-free summary and a written price covering only the work that matters. There is no cost and no commitment.
Once leaks pop up in different rooms, most of the ridge line needs redoing and the tiles have turned porous, it no longer makes sense to tackle each fault separately. A full restoration covers the lot and resets the clock on your roof.
It goes like this: a jet-wash first, then fresh tiles where old ones have cracked, new bedding and pointing under every ridge cap, renewed valleys and flashings, and finally sealer, primer and colour in whatever shade you settle on. It costs a small part of what a brand-new roof would, and it keeps your original tiles working for many more years. You will find more on our roof restoration services page.
We are a small business run by the bloke who still does the work. Our owner has been at this for over 25 years and is up there with the crew on every single job.
Licence and insurance are sorted, and each job ends with a proper quality check rather than a glance. Your price arrives in writing and is limited to what the roof needs. While we work, gardens are covered, paths and the drive are protected, and we leave things tidier than we found them. From our yard in Cairnlea it is an easy trip across to the Reservoir and Regent area.
