Riverside gums, parkland breezes and roofs that have quietly aged since the 1960s and 70s: that is Lower Plenty. Our licensed, insured crew repairs tiles, rebuilds ridges and repaints worn roofs, and the owner personally oversees every one.

Getting on a roof is not a job for just anyone, particularly on the split-level and two-storey homes that suit Lower Plenty’s sloping streets. You want someone licensed, insured and experienced enough to fix the problem without creating new ones. That is the kind of roofer we are.
We travel over to Lower Plenty from our base in Cairnlea, and the first person you meet is the owner, who will be on your roof within minutes of arriving, not a salesperson holding a clipboard in the driveway. We work through each slope, ridge and valley and record what we see in photos. Then we tell you which camp your roof falls into. Plenty of roofs here only need a handful of targeted repairs. Others are worn enough that restoring them outright will save money compared with patching for years to come. You will have the evidence either way.

Lower Plenty sits where the Plenty River winds down to meet the Yarra, and a large share of the suburb is parkland, river flats and golf course. Homes mostly date from the post-war decades onward, many built in the 1960s and 70s on leafy, sloping blocks, with concrete or terracotta tile roofs. Some of them are lovely mid-century designs with low-pitched rooflines and long eaves.
Two things wear these roofs down. The first is time: original ridge mortar dries out and cracks, tile surfaces erode, and old galvanised valleys rust. The second is the landscape. Big river red gums and other trees shed leaves and bark straight into gutters, and on lower-pitched roofs that debris drains away more slowly. Damp air drifting up from the river flats keeps shaded slopes moist, which helps moss and lichen take hold. Throw in the odd branch dropping in a storm, and small faults soon turn into leaks.
Our repairs are built to last, carried out by people who are properly licensed and insured. Typical work includes:
Photos before and after are part of every repair.
Up on the tiles, the owner works across the entire roof, noting the condition of the tiles, how firmly the ridge caps are holding, the state of valleys, flashings and gutters, and any overhanging trees that might cause trouble. On mid-century homes we also look closely at low-pitched sections, where water lingers longest. Anything needing work is photographed.
Afterwards you receive a frank summary and a written quote, priced only for what you decide to go ahead with. The inspection is free, and we will never pressure you to sign.
Many roofs in Lower Plenty have never had a restoration. After fifty-odd years, that usually shows: faded and porous tiles, ridges loose along most of their length and moss across the shady faces. When it gets to that point, piecemeal repairs only hold for so long.
A restoration brings the whole roof up to standard in one job. We start with a deep pressure clean, then change every broken tile, reset and point the ridges and renew tired valleys and flashings. The tiles are then finished with a sealer, primer and colour coats you choose, which can freshen up a mid-century home beautifully. The spend is a small slice of re-roofing money, and it extends the life of what you already have. For more, see our roof restoration services.
Licensing and insurance are the baseline, not a selling point. What actually sets us apart is continuity: the owner who inspects your roof brings two and a half decades of roofing to the job and stays on it until it is finished. Nobody hands you over to a stranger once the quote is signed.
Our quotes are written, itemised and trimmed to the work your roof genuinely needs. If a repair will buy you years, we will say so even though a restoration would be a bigger job for us. Garden beds get drop sheets, steep driveways are kept clear so you can still get the car out, and broken tiles and old mortar leave with us. Before we pack up, the finished work is checked against our own quality standards and photographed for you.
