Cold, wet Yarra Valley winters are hard on tiled roofs. We travel to Lilydale to replace cracked tiles, repoint ridges and recoat weathered roofs, with the owner on site for every job and an honest view on whether you need a repair or a full restoration.
No Fees. No Obligation. Open 7 Days a Week.
Lilydale sits at the edge of the Yarra Valley, where the suburbs give way to rolling hills and vineyards. The weather here is noticeably cooler and wetter than in the city. Frosty mornings, long stretches of drizzle and heavy downpours all test a roof, and many Lilydale homes, from older houses near Main Street to the 1970s and 1980s brick veneers further out, are showing it.
If something has gone wrong with your roof, or you suspect it soon will, we can help. We make the trip out to Lilydale, get on the roof and inspect every part of it, photographing what we find. Then we tell you plainly what is going on and what we recommend. A few repairs may be all it takes. If the roof is tired across the board, we will show you why a restoration is the better use of your budget.

Moisture is the main enemy in Lilydale. Roofs here stay wet for longer after rain, especially on the shaded side or under trees. That steady dampness is what moss and lichen need, and their growth gradually breaks down tile surfaces and ridge pointing. Concrete tiles that have lost their coating soak up even more water, which makes them heavier and more likely to crack.
Cold snaps add to the problem. On frosty nights, water trapped in porous tiles or in cracked mortar can freeze and expand, widening any small crack. Over several winters that turns hairline faults into proper leaks. Lilydale also sees strong winds ahead of cold fronts and summer storms with hail, both of which can disturb ridge caps or break tiles. Leaf fall from the area’s many trees clogs valleys and gutters, and once those overflow, water ends up inside the eaves or the ceiling.
Up here, a repair that would last ten years in the inner suburbs can fail in three if it is not done with the damp in mind. That shapes the way we work:
Photos of every repair are sent through, so you can see the work without climbing up.
We make the trip out, climb up and spend time on the roof. We check how much moss and lichen are growing, whether tiles have gone porous or frost-cracked, how the ridges and their pointing are holding, and whether valleys, flue flashings and gutters are draining. Where there is a stain, we look in the ceiling cavity as well. Problem spots are photographed. You then hear our thoughts in straightforward terms and receive an itemised quote. The inspection itself is free and nobody will chase you afterwards.
When moss covers whole faces, ridges are loose on every side and the tiles soak up water like a sponge, it is time to think about restoring rather than repairing. Spot fixes cannot keep up with Yarra Valley winters on a roof in that state.
We open with a high-pressure wash that lifts moss, lichen and failing coating. Cracked tiles are replaced, each ridge goes back down on fresh mortar, and worn valleys and flashings are replaced. A sealer then soaks into the tile, followed by a primer and two colour coats. That sealed skin is the key in Lilydale: it keeps moisture out of the tile, which means less moss and fewer frost cracks. The total comes in well below replacement cost. Learn more about our roof restoration services.
