Up on the high ground around Kangaroo Ground, a roof takes the wind full on. When tiles lift, ridges loosen or the coating has weathered away, we put it right, and should a restoration make more sense over the long haul, you'll get the reasons laid out plainly.

Kangaroo Ground is rolling farmland and bush on the hills between Eltham and Yarra Glen, crowned by the memorial tower that looks out across the Yarra Valley to the ranges. The homes here are spread across acreage, many of them sitting on ridgelines or open slopes where they catch the view, and the weather that comes with it.
Exposure is the big issue for roofs in Kangaroo Ground. Winds come through with nothing to stop them, and over the years that loosens ridge caps, lifts tiles and works away at pointing. When something gives, the owners who call us want to know one thing: is this a patch job, or a whole-roof job? We make the drive, climb up with a camera and give you an honest verdict once we have seen it all.

The higher and more open a house is, the harder the wind works on its roof. On Kangaroo Ground ridgelines, gusts push against tiles and pull at ridge caps from every direction. Old sand-and-cement bedding cracks under that repeated strain, caps begin to rock, and in a big blow they can lift completely. Individual tiles get nudged out of line, leaving gaps for rain to blow through.
Sun is the second pressure. Open country means no shade, so roofs bake through summer and coatings fade and chalk faster than in leafy suburbs. Concrete tiles that lose their surface start absorbing water, and lichen soon follows.
And there is the bush. Eucalypts around many properties drop leaves and bark into valleys and gutters, and storms can bring branches down. A blocked valley on a windy, rainy night is one of the most common causes of the leaks we fix out here.
Out on acreage, nobody wants a repair that needs redoing next season. We aim to fix it once:
We take our time on rural roofs. Each face is walked and checked, with particular attention to the windward side, the ridges and hips, and the areas under overhanging trees. Valleys, flashings, gutters and downpipes are all inspected too. Every concern is photographed, and when we come down we explain the condition of your roof in plain words and email through a quote broken down item by item. The visit is on us, and the decision stays entirely yours.
Some roofs have simply had enough. If the coating has worn away to bare tile, ridge caps rattle from one end to the other, tiles are weathered and porous and water is finding its way into more than one room, repairs alone will not hold. That is when we recommend a restoration.
It is a whole-of-roof job. We start by blasting off lichen, dust and flaking old coating. Weathered or cracked tiles get replaced, after which ridges and hips are rebuilt from the tile up, ready to face the westerlies again. Rusty valley irons and tired flashings are sorted next. The finishing coats are sealer, primer and a membrane topcoat, in whatever shade you settle on. Muted greens, greys and earthy tones tend to sit well against the paddocks and bush of Kangaroo Ground.
Put next to a full replacement, you spend a small slice of the money and keep the structure you already have. More on our approach is on the roof restoration services page.
Every job we take on is run by the owner himself, whose roofing career now stretches past 25 years. On a rural property, that matters. The person who sizes up your roof is the person up there on the day fixing it.
We are licensed, carry full insurance, and quality-assure everything we do. On acreage we keep a careful eye on rainwater tanks, fences, garden beds and long gravel drives, drape tarps over anything delicate and rake up after ourselves before the ute leaves. Our quotes arrive written out, line by line, and cover nothing your roof can do without.
