Bush properties at Cottles Bridge ask a lot of a roof: storms rolling over the hills, valleys stuffed with gum leaves, ridges slowly working loose. We are fully licensed, we make the trip out, and we tell you honestly what needs fixing and what can wait.

Cottles Bridge is proper bush country, out past Hurstbridge in the Nillumbik hills, where homes sit on large blocks among stringybarks and box gums and the nearest hardware store is a drive away. Houses here range from owner-built mud-brick and timber places to farmhouses and newer homes built to bushfire standards. Plenty have tiled roofs that have quietly weathered decades of hill-country storms.
When one of those roofs springs a leak, you need someone willing to come out and take it seriously. Getting to Cottles Bridge from our Cairnlea yard takes planning, so we book the trip so there is time to do the job properly. We check the whole roof, take photos of anything that matters and explain it in plain terms. If you only need a couple of tiles and a valley cleared, we will say so. If years of weather have worn the roof out, the photos will make that obvious and we can talk about restoring it.

Out here the trees win, eventually. Eucalypts shed leaves, bark ribbons and twigs all year, and the wind piles that debris into valleys and along gutters. A blocked valley turns a downpour into a waterfall that runs sideways under the tiles. Dry litter sitting on the roof edge is also something nobody in bushfire country wants to leave there.
Storms coming across the ranges are another fact of life. Strong gusts can drop branches straight onto the roof, cracking tiles, and wind working at the ridge line loosens caps whose mortar was already tired. Sheltered slopes and heavy canopy keep parts of the roof damp, which lets moss creep across the tiles and into the pointing. And because many properties are off the beaten track, small problems can go unnoticed for a long time. By the time water reaches the ceiling, the battens and insulation may have been soaking for months.
Our repairs are built for bush conditions. We work out what caused the problem, then fix it so it stays fixed.
Distance does not change our approach: the inspection is free and done on the roof. We look over the tiles, ridges and hips, pointing, valleys, flashings and gutters, and note any overhanging limbs that could cause trouble. Got a drip? We will check above the ceiling too. Our camera records everything, which helps if the property is a weekender and you cannot be there. You get a frank explanation plus a written price covering real needs only, and you owe us nothing for the visit.
Sometimes the honest verdict is that repairs are just chasing the problem around the roof. Moss over most of the surface, ridges loose from one end to the other and tiles that drink water like a sponge all point to a roof that needs a full restoration.
That job starts with stripping moss and grime using a high-pressure clean. Next we swap the cracked tiles, set every ridge and hip in new bedding with flexible pointing, and replace worn valleys and flashings. Last of all, sealer, primer and colour go on, in a tone picked to sit quietly against the stringybarks. The smooth finish sheds leaves and water more easily than weathered tile, and the whole job costs a fraction of re-roofing. Our roof restoration services page explains it in more detail.
When you book us, the owner comes too. He has been in the roofing game for over 25 years and he is on your property every day of the job instead of sending a crew out alone.
We are fully licensed and insured, and each job gets a quality check before we head home. On rural blocks we treat the place with respect: tarps over garden beds, care on gravel driveways and tracks, and all old mortar and broken tiles taken away with us. Quotes are written, itemised and limited to what the roof needs.
